A USAID regional event took place at Energo University

Regional event “The Role of Women in the Implementation of the Energy Transition in Central Asia.”

From September 24 to 25, Energo University (Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev) hosted the regional event "The Role of Women in Implementing the Energy Transition in Central Asia" as part of the USAID "Central Asia Energy" project.

The goal of the meeting was to develop professional skills in renewable energy for women working in the energy sector and to create a platform to promote gender equality principles in the energy industry of Central Asian (CA) countries.

More than 40 female energy specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the conference, both offline and online. The attendees were welcomed by Energo University Rector Gani Nygymentov. In his speech, he emphasized the significant professional role of women in all sectors of Central Asia's economy, including energy, especially now, as the region actively develops and implements new technologies and projects in renewable and nuclear energy.

The meeting was moderated by Aynur Begimbetova, Director of the Institute of Energy and Green Technologies at Energo University.

Participants discussed enhancing the knowledge and understanding of energy-related professions among women in Central Asia, addressed educational activities in renewable energy, the need for developing new technologies, and the tangible benefits of their practical application in mitigating climate change.

Background:

The USAID "Central Asia Energy" project was launched in October 2020. It aims to assist the five Central Asian countries — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan — in achieving their national energy priorities, gaining economic benefits from cross-border energy trade, and increasing energy security through enhanced regional interconnectedness.

The project supports cross-sectoral goals of promoting professional training, education, and capacity building; increasing private sector investment; leveraging local organizations’ expertise; and ensuring gender equality and inclusivity.
