Branch of the German University of Applied Sciences Anhalt opened in Almaty at Energo University
Opening ceremony of the branch of the German University of Applied Sciences Anhalt.
On September 18, a solemn ceremony was held in Almaty for the opening of the branch of the German University of Applied Sciences Anhalt at Energo University (Gumarbek Daukeyev Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications).
The event was attended by the Consul General of Germany in Almaty Matthias Kisler, President of Anhalt University Jörg Bagdahn, Rector of Energo University Gani Nygymentov, Director of Anhalt University's branch in Almaty Eduard Siemens, and representatives of the German Research Foundation.
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences became the first German university to teach in Kazakhstan under German educational programs and issue German-standard diplomas. The new branch will offer courses in English in the following fields: renewable energy, systems engineering, biotechnical and medical systems, energy policy, and international trade.
It is planned that the first 30 students will start their studies this year through state grants and paid funding. It is expected that grant funding will soon increase, allowing more Kazakh students to receive a high-quality engineering education and earn two diplomas – one from Kazakhstan and one from Europe.
The branch will also offer intensive German language courses, allowing students to complete part of their studies and internships in Germany.
Graduates of the branch will have broad opportunities for professional fulfillment both in Kazakhstan and in Germany and other European countries, - emphasized Jörg Bagdahn.
Initially, teaching at the branch will be conducted by German professors. After comprehensive professional development, their Kazakh colleagues will gradually take over. The first five professors from Energo University are already undergoing internships at Anhalt University, and another ten are scheduled to go to Germany in April next year for a year-long professional development program.
Our university and Anhalt University of Applied Sciences have had long-standing partnerships, - noted Energo University Rector Gani Nygymentov. – Together, even before the branch opened, we successfully developed and implemented five dual-degree programs. Today's event is a natural continuation of these relationships. We are confident that our partnership with one of Germany's leading technical universities will contribute to preparing high-quality specialists for our country's economy, who are also ready to compete in the global market.
Previously, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek noted that "Anhalt University plays an important role in the overall group of foreign university branches opening in Kazakhstan, as an expert in the field of energy and telecommunications. We aim to consciously use the experience of this German university in establishing cooperation with industrial companies, thereby attracting them to Kazakhstan as industry leaders."
