The only specialized energy university in Kazakhstan, Energo University (Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev), announces the establishment of a Center for a New Energy Policy. The so-called think tank will develop strategies and recommendations for Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries in the field of sustainable energy, energy efficiency and transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Center will be headed by Ainur Begimbetova, who previously headed the Institute of Energy and Green Technologies at Energo University. Her team includes Doctor of Economics, Professor Raushan Satova and other leading experts.
The main objectives of the Center will be:
- Analysis of global and regional energy trends, taking into account their adaptation for Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
- Research in the field of renewable energy and carbon footprint reduction technologies.
- Development of recommendations on energy efficiency for the public and private sectors.
- Preparation of analytical studies and forecasts for the energy industry.
- Creation of a platform for dialogue between the government, business and the scientific community.
In the near future, the Center will organize events with the participation of domestic and foreign experts. In addition, analytical reports and recommendations will be produced that are in demand by both the public sector and business.
Gani Nygymetov, Rector of Energo University, noted the importance of the new structural unit of the university as an intellectual base that unites the efforts of experts, researchers and students to develop innovative solutions in the energy sector.
- Kazakhstan lacks high-quality analytics for making strategic decisions in the energy sector. We hope that our Center will become a source of data and recommendations for relevant ministries and companies," he stressed.
It is also noted that the Center plans to actively cooperate with international organizations, including research institutes and UN structures. Special attention will be paid to Kazakhstan's integration into global energy processes.
