Social graduation project of Aruzhan Bekeyeva
“Development of a physical model of a robotic cane for the visually impaired” - this is the name of the graduation project of Aruzhan Bekeyeva, a student of the specialty “Automation and Control” of Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev.
In 2016, Aruzhan Bekeeva came from Taldykorgan to study at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev. She chose the specialty "Automation and Control" and was enrolled in the group where the studying was in English. During her studies, Aruzhan spent one semester in Poland under the academic mobility program.
This year, she has graduated from the AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeev with honors and has become a bachelor of engineering and technology with a degree in Automation and Control. Aruzhan Bekeyeva and her supervisor, Professor Lida Kuandykovna Ibraeva, had the idea of a graduation project in the process of considering the topic. IT technologies, the specifics of the specialty "Automation and Control" and the social orientation of the work were combined in this project.
The main result of the graduation project “Development of a physical model of a robotic cane for the visually impaired”, made by Bekeyeva, was a device that facilitates the movement in space of visually impaired and blind people.
“While working on the thesis project, Aruzhan showed independence, demonstrated the ability to put forward and learn new ideas, work with technical literature and modern software,” notes Lida Kuandykovna Ibraeva, supervisor, professor of the Department “Automation and Control”.
At first, Aruzhan won first place at the departament conference of students' research projects. Then she won first place at the next stage - at the level of the Institute of Control Systems and Information Technologies, which includes the department “Automation and Control”. And after winning the university conference, the project of Aruzhan Bekeyeva was sent to the republican competition of scientific research, where he won the second prize!
“The smart cane” of Aruzhan Bekeyeva can have a viewing angle of up to 180 degrees and has a connection with the user through voice messages and commands using a headset. In this case, the probability of detecting obstacles increases due to the joint application of a video camera and two distance sensors. And navigation to the end point of the route is provided by software based on Goggle Maps.
Such an interesting graduation project was developed and implemented by student Aruzhan Bekeeva. Her project also shows that for the specialty "Automation and Control" there will be applications in any field of human activity!
