The educational program from the third year has two learning paths:

- Automation and informatization in control systems;

- Automation and control in the fuel and energy complex.

The trajectory "Automation and control in the fuel and energy complex" is offered to those who are more predisposed to technology. Moreover, the acquired knowledge and skills will make it possible to work successfully not only in the energy sector, the oil and gas industry, but also in any other industry that requires automation and control. The trajectory "Automation and informatization in control systems" is designed for those who have a predisposition to programming. At the same time, students will gain knowledge, abilities and skills in working with computer equipment, measuring instruments, data collection and transmission devices and other automation equipment.

Labor market driven education

The educational process for the educational program "Automation and Control" is carried out at AUPET on the basis of the department "Automation and Control", which is part of the Institute of Control Systems and Information Technologies.

The department (formerly called Engineering Cybernetics) has been training automation and control specialists since 1988. Graduates of the department successfully work in all regions of Kazakhstan, hold senior positions in large enterprises, well-known foreign and domestic companies. Many Graduates have set up their business in the field of automation.

Graduates of the department found their application not only in production, but also in the banking sector, in the public service and law enforcement agencies. Training at the Department of Automation and Control is carried out at AUPET on the basis of a whole range of training laboratories:

"Microprocessor control systems"; “Data Acquisition and Processing Systems”; “Design and research of control systems”; “Modeling of control objects and Scada-system”; "Technical means of automation"; "Information technology in automation systems"; "Automated process control systems"; "Industrial controllers in automation systems."

The educational laboratories of the department "Automation and Control" are equipped with stands with modern automation equipment of world manufacturers. During the educational process, industrial controllers, instrumentation of the leaders in the industrial automation market - Siemens, Schneider Electric, ABB, Honeywell, B&R, Aries, Fisher-Rosermount, data collection systems based on National Instruments (USA) equipment, and others - are studied etc.

 The software needed today to solve all problems in the field of industrial automation is actively used in the educational process. These are modern software products for collecting and processing information; creating databases; development, modeling, research of automated control systems; creating Scada-systems and Mes-systems.

Authority gained over decades

A clear confirmation of the authority of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications is that now in the specialty "Automation and Control" the children of those who graduated from our university in the 90s are studying. In addition, the younger brothers and sisters of many graduates of recent years are currently studying at the department.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in the specialty “Automation and Control”, our graduates confirm their knowledge and apply for grants to the Master’s Degree Programs not only in Kazakhstan but also abroad. They enter in Russia (including leading technical universities - Moscow State Technical University named after Bauman and Novosibirsk State University), Great Britain, Finland, Austria, China, United Arab Emirates, Canada.
