The virus has not gone anywhere, it is next to us - Sagintayev

Akim of Almaty Bakytzhan Sagintayev spoke about the epidemiological situation in the city and when to expect the second wave of coronavirus infection on the air of the Akimat Live program, Kazpravda.kz reports. As he recalled, the peak fell on August 21, when 40 infected were identified. After that, the number of positive tests began to decline.

"Since September 9, the number of infected people has decreased. This shows the stability of the situation," Sagintayev said.

According to him, there are 6,200 beds in the city, there are 4,288 in reserve, 1,923 are used, 95% are free, 97 beds are occupied in hospitals. There are 250 resuscitation beds in the city, another 134 are in reserve, 116 are used, 85% are free, 18 beds are occupied. In total, 115 intensive care and inpatient beds are employed in the city. There are 136 people on outpatient treatment, of which 36 are asymptomatic.

Also, the mayor cited as an example the countries of Europe, where, after a slight lull, the number of cases increased sharply again. According to Bakytzhan Sagintayev, this is the result of the removal of quarantine restrictions, including permission to cross the border.

"Today, more cases of morbidity have begun to be detected in France than in the spring. In Spain, Italy, Israel, the situation is the same. Even in Moscow. In August they had a little more than 500 people, now they have exceeded 700. They started to travel to other countries, went on vacation, especially in Europe: cafes, restaurants, cinemas, public places were opened, and now a month and a half later the opposite process began, "he stressed.

"Given that we have autumn and winter ahead, we expect ARVI and flu. It is not for nothing that we say that there is a second wave ahead. After a certain time, these diseases will return. In those countries where everything is gone, today the virus infects people even more, than in the spring. We should also expect this. The virus has not gone anywhere, it is next to us. We must take care of ourselves and adhere to all the requirements of the epidemic service, "- said the akim.
