Rector annual report for the 2019-2020 academic year
Today, 30.09.2020, an expanded meeting of the Academic Council of the University has taken place. Rector's report Sagintaeva S.S. "The results of the activities of the Non – profit JSC" ALMATY UNIVERSITY OF POWER ENGINEERING AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS named after Gumarbek Daukeev "for the 2019-2020 academic year and tasks for the 2020-2021 academic year" was considered at the meeting.
The results of the activities and the main achievements of the university were noted in the report.
The 2019-2020 academic year was marked by the fact that the name of Gumarbek Daukeev was assigned to the university by the general meeting of shareholders.
The university, despite the current difficult situation in the education system in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, shows high results in the quality of personnel training and occupies a leading position in national and international rankings.
The laboratory base of the university was further developed. Joint laboratories with the Israeli company AYYEKA, Schneider Electric Laboratory were established. HUAWEI Academy was opened. Branches of the laboratory of the European University of Cassino "Mechatronics and Robotics" on the basis of AUPET and a branch of the Department of Space Engineering and Technology at the National Center for Space Research and Technology were created. At the expense of an international grant under the ERASMUS + program, the Center was equipped.
During the reporting year, 11 grant projects through the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2 projects through the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, 21 projects on a contract basis were completed. The customers of the contract research were such companies as: JSC "AlatauZharykCompanies", JSC "KEGOC", JSC "Kazteleradio", Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas, JSC “Almaty Power Plants”, etc.
The university passed the pre-qualification selection of the Samruk-Kazyna JSC group of companies and climbed one step, having received the 2nd level of criticality (3 in total) with a rating of 88%. In addition, the university was included in the list of authorized persons of experts of the Committee on Regulation of Natural Monopolies and Protection of Competition.
All this indicates that the university conducts relevant research, which is in demand in the real sector of the economy.
The amount of research funding in 2019 increased by 19% compared to 2018. In 2020 (8 months), the planned amount of R&D funding is 54% higher than in 2019. At the same time, grant funding for R&D in 2019 increased by 28%, and at the end of 8 months of 2020, the same indicator increased by 50%.
The publications of the faculty reached a new qualitative level, which is confirmed by the indexing of articles in international databases and demonstrates the relevance of the research: for articles indexed by the international SCOPUS database, the growth is 83%, in the Web of Science database - 3.6 times. The number of valid patents as of 03/04/2020 is 22.7% higher than as of 01/01/2019.
Income from educational activities compared with last year increased by 48.17%. But at the same time, the profitability of the Institute for Advanced Studies has significantly decreased.
AUPET College has successfully passed institutional and specialized accreditation at SU "Independent Kazakhstani Accreditation Center".
Over the past 5 years, еру number of students has been increased steady. Since 2018, the average growth has been 22% per year. The employment rate of graduates in 2020 was 83%. In 2019, AUPET entered the top 25 of the international rating "U-Multirank" according to the parameter "Cooperation with the working environment" (Contact to work environment) in the specialties of electrical, heat power engineering, information technologies ("Electric Engineering" and "Computer Sciences") ...
At the university, digitalization processes, increasing computer capacities, strengthening the material and technical base are actively being carried out.
Thus, the results of the University's work for the 2019-2020 academic year has shown the stable and dynamic development of the university in all areas of activity.
Rector Sagintaeva S.S. has defined the tasks of the team for the 2020-2021 academic year in management, academic, scientific and innovative activities, as well as further digitalization of all processes.

He noted the high professionalism of the work of the executives and the faculty, and also expressed his gratitude to the rector Sagintayeva S.S. and teachers who were able to maintain and improve the position of the university in all areas of activity.
