The government has approved the project of transferring the Almaty Thermal Power Plant -2 from coal to gas

The project, which implies the reconstruction of the existing power boilers, was selected from four options.

“The government has approved the project of gasification of the Almaty Thermal Power Plant -2,” the Prime Minister's website says.

"At a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, a decision was made on the modernization project for the Almaty Thermal Power Plant -2. Of the four options considered for the modernization of the thermal power plant, taking into account public opinion, the transfer of the Thermal Power Plant -2 from coal to gas through the reconstruction of existing power boilers was approved." , - the message says.

"The chosen option of gasification of the combined Thermal Power Plant will allow using the existing supply and discharge infrastructure," the Prime Minister's press service noted.

"At the same time, the impact on the environment is minimized - there are no emissions of sulfur oxides, ash, low emissions of nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide," the message says.

The project will be implemented in stages by the end of 2025.
