The plenary session of the XI International Scientific and Technical Conference was held at AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeev

Non-profit joint-stock company "Almaty University of Power Engineering and Communications named after Gumarbek Daukeev" from October 16 to 18, 2020 held the XI International Scientific and Technical Conference "Energy, infocommunication technologies and higher education". It was dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the foundation of the leading university in the field of energy and telecommunications.

In connection with the measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the university administration decided to hold the conference in a remote format using the Zoom platform.

Scientists from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, China and the USA, as well as heads of the leading enterprises of Kazakhstan in the field of energy, communications, IT technologies took part in the conference.

During the conference, 10 sections worked, a total of 140 reports were heard.

In each section, the winners were approved in the following nominations:

- "For the novelty of scientific research";

- “For the relevance of the problem under study”;

- "For professional disclosure of the theme".

The online plenary session was attended by:

Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control, Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Zholdasov Zulfukhar Sansyzbaevich. He noted the positive dynamics of reducing the environmental load of the air basins of the cities of Kazakhstan due to the decrease in emissions. He said that the transition of Thermal Power Plant-1 into gas in Almaty made it possible to reduce emissions by 50%. Zholdasov Z.S. touched upon the importance of waste disposal through gas cleaning, using the experience of foreign partners, as well as making appropriate amendments to the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Eugene Pitolin, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab in Kazakhstan, Central Asia and Mongolia, presented a report on the theme "Cybersecurity of Critical Objects of the Digital Economy and the Life of Society". He drew attention to the fact that Kazakhstan ranks 40th in the world in the number of cyber-attacks, and also noted that the number of cyber threats to industrial enterprises is increasing annually.

Representatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Elkin S.A. and A. Arzumanyan noted the many years of work with the university. As a result, energy efficiency has been increased, heat supply has been automated, energy management standards have been introduced, and express energy audits have been carried out. Also, the fruitful cooperation of USAID with the university in the implementation of programs and solving applied problems was noted. In particular, the equipment in the laboratory of the university was supplied, joint research is being carried out, new approaches and techniques in the electric power industry and renewable energy sources are being developed.

Managing director for production assets of JSC “SamrukEnergo” Tyutebaev S.S. made a presentation "Transfer of Almaty Thermal Power Plant-2 into gas". Several options for upgrading Thermal Power Plant -2 were considered to select and approve the most optimal option. Subsequent final design studies of the Feasibility Study will be carried out on its basis.

Head of the scientific and educational center "Green Academy" Esekina B.K. made a presentation on the theme "Energy decarburization: global trends and Kazakhstan". The main directions of decarbonization of heat and power complexes in Kazakhstan, increasing the energy efficiency of production, the development of Renewable Energy Sources, the introduction of "green" technologies, the introduction of carbon storage technology were noted in the report.

At the plenary session the chairman of the board of JSC “Kazakhtelecom” K.B. Esekeev noted, that the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications is the basic university for training specialists in the field of telecommunications and wished the university further prosperity.

Chairman of "Kazenergoprofsoyuz" O.T. Bekbas touched upon the issues of increasing wages and salaries, and ensuring safe working conditions in the energy sector of Kazakhstan. These issues are of great importance in the period of globalization and transformational processes of socio-economic and political development of our industry.

It should be noted that at the plenary session, the ceremony of awarding the Chairman of the Kazakhstan Electricity Association Kuanyshbaev Askerbek Dossayevich with the title "Honorary Professor of AUPET named after G. Daukeev" was held.

Kuanyshbaev A.D. is one of the first graduates of the Alma-Ata Power Engineering Institute. He held key positions in the branch of JSC “KEGOC” -  "Almaty Intersystem Electric Networks" and in the Executive Directorate of JSC “KEGOC”. He is the author of more than 30 scientific articles, reports and guidelines in the following areas: economic efficiency of electrification, development of a concept for the formation of energy tariffs, the impact of the taxation system on economic development.

In addition, 10 reports, i.e. one report from each section was recommended to be published in the journal "Vestnik AUPET" №4 (51) at the expense of the university
