INDEPENDENCE IS THE WINGS OF THE PEOPLE
On December 16, 1991, having adopted a special law, we announced to the whole world that Kazakhstan is from now on an independent state. The date for the "Independence Day of Kazakhstan" was not chosen by chance. On December 16, 1991, the Supreme Council of Kazakhstan adopted a law on the independence and state sovereignty of the Republic.
After the collapse of the USSR, the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic became the last of the union in the post-Soviet space to proclaim its state sovereignty. According to the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, “together we became the founders and witnesses of the beginning of a new era of our statehood”. I am proud that it was my generation that had the great honor of fulfilling the age-old aspirations of our ancestors. Independence Day of Kazakhstan is the main national holiday of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This date is celebrated in Kazakhstan annually on December 16. For 29 years, Kazakhstan has covered a path that took other countries centuries.
Thanks to the unity of the people, we have built a strong, independent and prosperous state. Will, faith and responsibility for the fate of the state united our nation. According to the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev, "Independence is the wings of the people. Not every people is given this priceless gift. And even having received it, not everyone can use it successfully.
In 1991, we broke the bonds that bound our wings to fly on our own. The Republic of Kazakhstan is a young independent state. However, during this period, significant large-scale government transformations took place in the country. A two-chamber Parliament was established, a judicial system was created, and a new capital was announced. More recently, the Armed Forces, Republican Guards, Border Troops and the Navy have emerged.
The existing economic system was radically transformed. Today we live in a country with a developing market economy capable of integrating into the world economic system. Kazakhstan has become a leading state among the CIS and Eastern European countries in attracting foreign investment. Also, significant reforms in the social and pension spheres were carried out. Kazakhstan voluntarily renounced the use of nuclear weapons on its territory and declared itself a country free of nuclear weapons.
The international policy of Kazakhstan is aimed at achieving international guarantees of the sovereignty and independence of our state. A lot of fruitful work has been done to establish friendly relations with foreign countries. Over 120 countries have officially recognized and established diplomatic relations with Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is a full and active member of the UN, and also strengthens cooperation with the most influential international organizations such as: the European Union, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Monetary Fund, the IAEA, the Red Cross, UNICEF and UNESCO. Kazakhstan has joined more than 40 multilateral and 700 bilateral agreements and treaties. Today we can say with confidence that Kazakhstan has become famous in the international arena and has taken a worthy place among the world's economic systems.
