In memory of a scientist, teacher, organizer

Recently, by the decision of the Academic Council of the University, the name of the talented scientist, teacher, organizer Omar Turganbek Kaliuly (1949-2020) was assigned to the Scientific and Technical Center "Problems of Information Security".

Omar T.K. in 1974  graduated with honors from the Kalinin Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (now St. Petersburg Polytechnic University named after  Peter the Great) with a degree in information and measurement technology.

In 1984. after completing his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Higher Technical School named after N.E. Bauman, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences in specialty 05.13.13. "Computing machines, complexes, systems and networks."

From 1984 to 2015, Omar T.K. worked in education, science and business.

From May 2015 to 10 February 2020, until the end of his life, Omar T.K. worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Information Security Systems (now - the Department of Information Systems and Cybersecurity) of AUPET.

During this time, Omar T.K. showed himself as a competent and principled teacher and scientist. He took an active part in the development of educational programs, gave lectures and conducted laboratory and practical classes in the major disciplines of the specialty “Systems of Information Security”.

Omar T.K was the head of the International Research Laboratory “Cybersecurity Technologies”, created on his initiative. He actively participated as a Senior Researcher in the implementation of the scientific project BR053236757 "Development of software and hardware for cryptographic protection of information during its transfer and storage in infocommunication systems and general-purpose networks" for 2018-2020 under the Targeted Program Financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of RK.

In 2018, Omar T.K. won the competition for the implementation of Scientific - Research Work, announced by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He was appointed project leader AP06851243 "Development of methods, models and tools for managing security events and incidents for detecting and preventing cyber-attacks on critical infrastructures of the digital economy" for 2019-2021.

On his initiative, agreements and memorandums of cooperation were signed with the Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman, St. Petersburg Institute of Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, Scientific Production Association "Echelon". He received free of charge 3 software packages used in the educational process. Famous Russian scientists in the field of information security Kotenko I.V., Markov A.S., Moldovyan N.A., Medvedev N.V. were invited to the university to give lectures by him.

Omar T.K. enjoyed great authority and respect among colleagues. He was distinguished by intelligence, sensitive attitude to colleagues, demanding - to himself, conscientious - to work, disinterested - to people.

Recently, on the basis of the Scientific and Technical Center "Problems of Information Security", based on the results of the BR053236757 project under the authorship of the project manager, Sakhybay Tynymbaev, the monograph "Development of operating devices for public key cryptosystems" was prepared and published. The author dedicated this monograph to the memory of his late friend and colleague Turganbek Kalievich.
