- On October 1, 1961, an order was issued by the Minister of Secondary and Higher Special Education Bilyalov V.I. on the foundation of the Faculty of Power Engineering at the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute named after Lenin (now Kazazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I.Satpayev).

- The first dean of the Faculty of Power Engineering was Associate Professor E.G. Cherkasov.

***

- The Faculty of Power Engineering began training engineers in two specialties 0303 - "Power supply of industrial enterprises and cities" and 0305 - "Thermal power plants".

- By the decision of the rector of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute, academician O.A. Baikonurov, experienced teachers-scientists from Tomsk (Russia): Сandidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kropanin S.S .; Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Novokshonov V.S. (later Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor); Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor R.G. Karymov; Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kostrygin V.A. and from Ukraine, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Titarenko Yu.A. were invited and provided with apartments.

- Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Cherkasov E.G .; Deputy Dean of the Faculty Bandurin (Mishchenko) N.Kh .; subsequently deans of the faculty Omarov K.M., Zhienkulov S.A .; heads of departments, technical specialists for the training of the first power engineers of Kazakhstan: Candidates of Sciences, Associate Professors Kropanin S.S., Karimov R.G., Khozhin G.Kh., Titarenko V.M., Bratchikov V.N., Kim Gi - Shen; Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Tonkonogiy A.V., Novokshonov V.S., Zhuravlev V.K. made a huge contribution to the organization of the educational process of the faculty, provision of teaching books, the formation of the material base of educational laboratories.

- In 1966, the first graduates of Power Engineers and Heat Power Engineers received their diplomas and went to the enterprises of the republic and the Union scale.

 - From 1969 to 1973, the famous scientist and public figure S.A. Zhienkulov was the  Dean of the Faculty of Energy

- In 1970, the Department “Power Plants”, and in 1971, the Department “Electrical Systems and Networks” were opened.

- On October 4, 1974, the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR was published. It reads: “To organize from January 1, 1975 in the city of Alma-Ata on the basis of the energy faculty of the V.I. Lenin - Almaty Institute of Power Engineering ".

- By order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Kazakh SSR dated December 31, 1974 No. 903, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Albert Vasilyevich Bolotov was appointed rector of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering.

-On January 1, 1975, in the assembly hall of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute, full of students and teachers, the grand opening of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering took place.

- On January 1, 1975, the Minister of Secondary and Higher Specialized Education of Kazakhstan, Turganbek Kataevich Kataev, took part in the opening ceremony of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering and presented the keys of the new university to the rector of the Institute, Albert Vasilyevich Bolotov.

- In 1975, the opened institute was located in building "B" of AUPET.

- In 1975, student dormitory №1 was built for the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering. Additional premises were provided to the Institute, the territory was expanded .

- In 1975, the construction of a hostel in the Orbita microdistrict began.

- In 1975-1976, the construction of building "A" was completed.

- In the foundation of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan Dinmukhamed Akhmetovich Kunaev; Chairman of the Council of Ministers Ashimov Bayken Ashimovich; Ministry of Energy of the USSR; State Planning Committee of Kazakhstan; Taufik Galeevich Mukhamed-Rakhimov; Kalyk Abdullaevich Abdullaev; Akhmetbekov Marat Uteinovich; Energy Minister Timofey Ivanovich Baturov; his deputy Bulat Gazisovich Nurzhanov; Deputy Minister of Communications Kazyken Bazylovich Bazylov; The Ministry of Defense and the branch ministries of the republic provided enormous support.

On the 14th of February, 1975 by order No. 12 of the rector A.V. Bolotov Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Arystanov Marat Zhusupovich; Vice-Rector for Research, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Abidulla Umiryaev; Vice-rector for evening and correspondence work, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Ermekbayev Kamil Bayuzakovich; Vice-rector for administrative and economic work, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kerimtai Nұrkerimuly Baimbetov were appointed.

By order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Kazakh SSR T.K. Kataev dated February 14, 1975, No. 113, the following faculties were opened as part of the institute:

1. Heat Power Engineering

2. Electrical Engineering

3. Electromechanics

4. Electric technics

5. Evening and extra-mural learning.

According to the order, the first deans at the faculties were appointed: Candidates of Technical Sciences Zhiger Aytkazovich Dairbekov - Dean of the Faculty of Heat Power Engineering, Gennady Viktorovich Stulnikov - Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Georgy Oskarovich Markus - Dean of the Faculty of Electromechanics, Zhunusbek Kusanbekovich Amirovich - Dean of the Faculty of Electric technics, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering evening and extra-mural learning

By order of the Minister of Higher Education of the Kazakh SSR of March 6, 1975, No. 171 of March 10, 1975, 22 departments began work at the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering. Technical and general education departments were part of them.

The Faculty of Heat Power Engineering included the following departments: 1) Thermal Power Plants; 2) Organization of Economy and Energy; 3) General Heating Equipment; 4) Chemistry and Materials Science; 5) Foreign and Russian languages.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering included the following departments: 1) power supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture; 2) Electrical and Applied Electrical Engineering; 3) Higher mathematics; 4) Physics; 5) Departments of labor protection.

The faculty of Electro mechanics consisted of the following departments: 1) Power Stations and Substations; 2) Automation of Electric Drives and Industrial Installations; 3) Electric Vehicles; 4) Applied Mechanics; 5) Departments of Physical Education.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering: 1) Electrical Systems and Networks; 2) Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering; 3) Descriptive Geometry and Graphics; 4) Departments of High-Voltage Equipment.

In general, the number of public departments includes: 1) history of the CPSU and political economy; 2) Marxist-Leninist philosophy and scientific communism; 3) Department of Civil Defense.

In the 1975-1976 academic year at the faculties of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering from 50 to 100 student groups were trained and 218 professors and teachers worked.

From 1975-1976 academic year, the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering trained engineers in the following specialties: 1)  0301 - Power Plants; 2) 0302 - Electrical Networks and Systems; 3) 0303 - Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises, Cities and Agriculture; 4) 0305 - Thermal Power Plants; 5) 0315- Electric Power Industry; 6) 0628 - Automation of Electric Drives and Industrial Installations; 7) 1605 - Urban Electric Transport; 8) 1707 - Economics and Organization of Energy.

In connection with the election of the secretary of the party bureau M.K. Duysebaev, chairman of the trade union committee M.I. Pak, secretary of the Komsomol committee V. Talanov, social and political work was intensified.

The first heads of departments appointed by the order of the rector in 1975 were: G.Kh. Khozhin; A.V. Tonkonogiy; Vypolzova M.N .; V.S. Novokshonov; V.K. Zhuravlev; Turganbaev I.T .; Mitin Y.S.; Kopesov N .; B.P. Tikhomirov; Duisebaev M.K .; Ivanov E.A .; Rodygin A.A .; Bogorodsky S.V .; Tobayakov Zh.O .; Kalinina N.N; and etc.

In the 1975-1976 academic year, the competition system for vacancies was reinstated and 128 faculty members were elected to the approved staff. Of these, 12 heads of departments, 17 associate professors, 39 senior teachers, 60 assistants and teachers.

The number of professors and teachers in 1976 was 218, in 1977 - 233, in 1978 - 255, in 1979 - 285 people.

In the 1976-1977 academic year, 48 people studied in two forms of postgraduate study. Of these, 26 are employees of institutes, 18 are employees of industrial enterprises and research institutes, 2 are employees of other universities, 2 are young specialists and interns. By ethnic composition - 27 Russians, 13 Kazakhs, the rest are Belarusians, Tatars, Koreans and other nationalities, of which there were 3 women.

In the 1975-1976 academic year, the total number of students at the institute was 2852 people. Electrical Engineering -711; Heat Power Engineering - 483; Electric technics - 432; Electromechanics - 358; correspondence and evening departments - 868.

By order of the Minister of Higher Education of the Kazakh SSR of September 1, 1975, No. 582 3, 6, 8-month training courses were opened at the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering. In the 1975-1976 academic year and in subsequent years, 100 people a year were admitted to the preparatory department .

On August 15, 1977, by order of the rector No. 268 in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the branch of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering - the all-institute faculty was opened. In July 1981, by order of the rector No. 32 in Tselinograd (now Nur-Sultan), the general institute faculty was opened.
