From online to a blended learning model

From online to a blended learning model

The spring semester began on February 1. Classes in the 2nd semester are held in a mixed mode.

Before the start of their studies, students were informed about the new format of studying in the second semester: about the organization of the educational process, the rules of settling and living in a hostel, the format of lectures and seminars in all courses with a mixed form of study.

At the moment, taking into account the changing epidemiological situation, all lectures and seminars in all courses with a mixed form of education are held remotely (online). Laboratory work takes place offline, in compliance with sanitary and epidemiological requirements: only 4 people from a group on a sliding schedule have access to the building for laboratory classes, the rest of the students participate online.

All students are required to wear medical masks during the entire period of their stay at the university. Students who show up without masks are not allowed on the university grounds.

Nonresident 1st year students are provided with places in the hostel on a priority basis, taking into account the decrease in the total number of places for maintaining social distance.

For 1st year students in the disciplines of the social and humanitarian block, lectures are held in a distance format, seminars are offline. In Physics, students perform laboratory work in a mixed format (access to the laboratory is allowed only to 4 freshmen from a group on a sliding shift schedule). Freshmen study the disciplines of the IT-direction "Fundamentals of Algorithmization and Programming", "Design in AutoCAD, Solid Works", "Fundamentals of Computer Graphics" completely remotely.

It is worth noting that in the second semester, AUPET students study on the basis of the new AUPET portal http://portal.aues.kz/, developed by programmers of the Information Technology Department. Unlike the information system "Platonus", on the basis of which the training in the first semester was carried out, the new portal has the following advantages:

1) convenient, intuitive interface for both students and faculty;

2) the ability to add various elements or resources to the course (files, texts, video files, assignments, forum, pages, polls, etc.), which gives the faculty the opportunity to apply various learning technologies;

3) the faculty has the ability to set deadlines for completing the assignment, control how the learning process is going, who attended the course and what resources they got acquainted with;

4) there is a possibility of dialogue with students through the forum;

5) when checking the assignment, the faculty can make a comment and return it to the student for revision, then evaluate the already revised work;

6) the possibility of testing students is provided, both after each lesson and during midterm controls;

7) all grades are posted in the journal and are available to students, there is a history of grading;

8) the faculty has the opportunity to receive a report on the grades.

The administrator has more opportunities and a set of tools: monitoring student progress in each subject, semester or period of study, adding / removing courses, students, teachers and others. Classes are held in streaming mode. Microsoft Teams is used for this purpose. For faculty, requirements have been developed for materials posted on the portal, which include lecture notes, video lectures, a syllabus, assignments for laboratory / practical work, computational and graphic works, term papers / projects, tests for knowledge control.

We wish the students successful studies and the faculty fruitful work!
