On February 24, 2021, on the Google Meet platform, a seminar on the topic: "Decarbonization: real solutions" was organized and conducted by the Institute “Heat Power Engineering and Control Systems”.

More than 20 specialists and interested persons, including academicians, professors and employees of Non-profit JSC AUPET, specialists of specialized enterprises of Kazakhstan, representatives of JSC “Zhasyl Damu” took part in the seminar.

Seminar moderator was the Director of the Institute “Heat Power Engineering and Control Systems” of AUPET - Associate Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences Bakhtiyar Balzhan Turepashevna. Vice-rector for scientific and innovative activities of AUPET - PhD Saukhimov Almaz Abzhalievich began the seminar with a welcoming speech.

Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, professor of the department “Heat Power Plants” of AUPET, Doctor of Technical Sciences Aliyarov Birlesbek Kanievich made a report “Opportunities of Kazakhstan to reduce carbonization in the generation of heat and electric energy”. Professor of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Department of “Heat Power Plants” of AUPET, Doctor of Technical Sciences Orumbaev Rakhimzhan Kabievich made a report “Issues of decarbonization when burning ordinary coal in Kazakhstan in layered furnaces”. Esekina Ayman Serikovna, invited specialist, director of the department for monitoring and project management of JSC “Zhasyl Damu”, made a presentation “The system of trading in quotas for greenhouse gas emissions of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

Both the main most promising technological solutions and the already obtained concrete practical results of research work were noted in the reports. Students of AUPET Master's and PhD programs took an active part in the seminar. The speakers' reports were highly appreciated by the audience. Discussion of the materials of the speeches by the participants of the seminar showed the high relevance of the issues raised and the mutual interest of representatives of the energy and environmental sectors.

Based on the results of the seminar, the need for further development of all the presented directions of decarbonization was noted. A proposal for a separate joint consideration of the issue of the use of animal and crop waste and their accounting for the subjects of quotas in the "carbon market" were made.
