Minister told how student scholarships will grow
Government members have presented a plan according to which the amount of scholarships for university students will double by 2025, Tengrinews.kz reports.
"This academic year, the size of scholarships for students has been increased by 25 percent, for students of PhD programs - by 83 percent. By 2025, scholarships for students will increase twice, for undergraduates and for students of PhD programs - 1.5 times," - Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov said at a meeting of the government.
If in 2020 the scholarship for undergraduates was 26,186 tenge per month, then in 2025 it will increase to 52,372 tenge. For students of Master’s programs, the scholarship will increase from 66,913 to 117,098 tenge, for students of PhD programs - from 150 to 262 thousand tenge.
"To expand access to higher education, the number of grants will increase by 50 percent until 2025. Grants for studying will be allocated only to areas in demand. Different types of grants will be introduced," Aimagambetov said.
In 2020, 51,059 grants were allocated, and in 2025, 76,500 educational grants are planned.
