Reading is the key to the development of a person's spiritual world

In February - March 2021 in the Non – profit JSC “AUPET named after G. Daukeyev” The international student competition “The best reader of the epic novel by M. Auezov “Abai's Way” was held online. This is especially true in a pandemic due to the fact that reading develops human culture, and culture, in turn, is designed to ensure the survival of humanity.

Such events help to increase the interest of today's youth in reading. They form national values among students. They help to master the basic principles of Kazakhstani education from the point of view of the national worldview, increase the number of book lovers and support them, help increase the spiritual potential of young people, expand their horizons, reveal new talents, and also provide an opportunity to show respect for writers who have contributed to the cultural and spiritual development of the Kazakh people.

“A person stops thinking,

when he stops reading "

- Denis Diderot

On March 10, 2021, the Department for Language Studies at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev organized a large-scale event. It was dedicated to the works of the great classic of Kazakh literature Mukhtar Omarkhanovich Auezov. The international competition entitled "The best reader of the epic novel" Abai's Way", aimed at the mental, moral and aesthetic education of the younger generation, was held among students of universities in Kazakhstan and abroad.

This event is of particular relevance in the modern world of digital technology. Unfortunately, with the appearance of social networks and gadgets, young people around the world read less and less. A decline in literacy and speech culture is observed. Fiction has a great influence on the development and enrichment of speech. In the process of reading, such cognitive skills as memory, imagination and thinking develop. In this regard, I would like to emphasize the special importance of such events, introducing reading and generating interest in literature in general. It should be noted that the participants of the competition distinguished themselves by their erudition, wit and good knowledge. This means that Kazakhstani youth, despite the tendencies of the modern world, continues to read fiction!
