Learning languages ​​is the way to success!

The Olympiad in a foreign language in any educational institution is a significant event and a driving force for the development and strengthening of the status of this foreign language in the linguistic space of the country. Participation in the Olympiads increases the motivation for the studied language and culture of the people speaking this language, which can be mastered as a means of intercultural communication. Also, participation in the Olympiad affects the formation of students' personal qualities, forms purposefulness, broadens the horizons and ideas about the culture of the country of the language being studied.

Conducting the Olympiad in foreign languages (English and German) has become a good tradition at our university (AUPET). So, on March 31, 2021 at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev, the faculty of the Department for Language Studies held the 2nd, final round of the student Olympiad in foreign languages. The Olympiad was held online.

The qualifying round of the Olympiad consisted of performing a lexical and grammatical test aimed at determining the level of students' linguistic competence. The tasks for the 2nd round of the Olympiad were adapted from DAF (German) and IELTS. This is listening and assignments to it and speaking on given topics. Students take part in the Olympiad with great interest and enthusiasm, where they demonstrate their knowledge of the language and the ability to use it in practice. It is known that confident knowledge of English and German is nowadays viewed as a serious competitive advantage that allows opening up new horizons for students who want to study and develop, travel and meet people in different countries of the world.
