On April 2, 2021, an online meeting of student activists with the leadership of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev was held. The meeting was moderated by Zarema Alfredovna Abdullina, Director of the Youth Policy Department of AUPET.
Traditionally, on the online platform, student activists, heads of study groups and all students wishing to ask questions gathered. On the part of the AUPET University, Vice-Rector for Academic Activities Sergey Vladimirovich Konshin, Vice-Rector for Educational Work Makhmutov Serik Kapanovich, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Saukhimov Almaz Abzhalievich took part in the meeting. The students could directly ask questions to the Directors of the Institutes and heads of Departments. More than 100 people participated in the meeting.
Vice-Rector for Academic Activities Sergey Vladimirovich Konshin began the meeting with his speech. The topic of his speech: "On the amendments and additions made to the decree of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the city of Almaty No. 12 dated 03/27/2021, namely, on the transfer to the distance learning format of university students." He said that before the end of the current academic year, the university has completely switched to online learning. The prepared IT-infrastructure of AUPET within a year allowed the new software development department of the Information Technology Department to develop its own information and educational platform. By the end of the semester, students will be able to take exams on the new portal. In the new academic year, the university intends to completely abandon the Platonus educational platform and move to its own.
In his speech, Sergei Vladimirovich emphasized that distance education is developing rapidly. According to eLearning Industry, the eLearning market grew 900% between 2001 and 2017 alone. After the abolition of quarantine measures, universities will not abandon the distance learning format. On the contrary, in the coming years, even more information and educational platforms for distance learning will be created.
Vice-Rector for Educational Work Makhmutov Serik Kapanovich noted that nonresident students living in university dormitories, if they wish, can continue their studies in compliance with sanitary and epidemiological rules, without returning home.
Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Policy Mansur Kairovich Karakesov said that a large-scale free vaccination against coronavirus infection began in Almaty. This will certainly improve the epidemiological situation.
During the meeting, students were able to directly ask their questions about the educational process. They were interested in the award of educational grants and payment of scholarships. The students also touched upon the issue of the technical equipment of the university. They asked what platform the session will be held remotely on. Nonresident students asked questions about the learning process, namely: how the laboratory work and the verification of the computational and graphic works will be carried out.
Director of the Department of Youth Policy Zarema Alfredovna Abdullina reminded the students of the need to comply with the Student Honor Code of AUPET and the Academic Integrity Policy. She asked the students to take a responsible attitude to the educational process: to control themselves, organize themselves, complete assignments on time, actively use additional hours of study, follow the rules of online communication, observe visual and speech etiquette.
