The vice-rector for scientific and innovative activities of the AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev Saukhimov Almaz Abzhalievich spoke about the advantages of Master degrees over Bachelor’s degree in a live broadcast
On April 8, 2021, on the Google meet online platform, a live broadcast "On the rules for admission to the Master’s programs of AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev" was held
Students of the graduating courses of the Bachelor's degree received answers to all questions of interest regarding admission to the Master’s programs of the university. The speakers were the vice-rector for scientific and innovation activities Saukhimov Almaz Abzhalievich, director of the department of Master’s and PhD programs Estemesova Gulsara Dautkhanovna, executive secretary of the selection committee Almuratova Kamshat Bimuratova.
Vice-rector for scientific and innovation activities of the AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev, Saukhimov Almaz Abzhalievich was the first to speak. In his speech, he spoke about the advantages of studying to the Master’s programs. He emphasized that enrolling in Master's degree programs is a worthwhile investment. The competitiveness of graduates of the Master's program increases; they are more in demand in the labor market. A master's degree diploma is more credible among employers. He also stressed that the master's degree is internationally recognized, and the master's qualification makes it possible to work in leadership positions.
“Since last year, we have been reorganizing educational programs in flexible technology, introducing courses in project management (PMI, pmbok) to obtain the competencies that our graduates need as leaders. Also this year we are introducing additional disciplines on energy audit, energy saving and much more. We want our students to maximize their qualifications during their master's studies, and thereby receive the necessary knowledge and certificates to become competitive,” said Almaz Abzhalievich.
Since 2021, the graduates of Master's programs who studied under a state grant are required to work for three years in accordance with the direction of study, namely, at manufacturing enterprises, specialized universities or at Research Institutes.
“There are not enough engineers in the country. Holders of a Master's degree will not have problems with employment. More often than not, undergraduates themselves do not want to work in manufacturing enterprises. The reasons for everyone are different, from low salaries to inconsistencies with expectations for the position. All technical professionals, as specialists, started from the lowest point of the career ladder. And therefore, since you have chosen this path, I recommend going through all the stages of the career ladder, and it starts from the lowest level,” said Almaz Abzhalievich, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovation Activities of the AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev.
During the meeting, the applicants were interested in the issues of deferment from conscription, whether there will be distance learning in the new academic year and the cost of training of the Master’s programs.
“Graduating from the Master’s programs does not give a delay from being drafted into the army. As for distance education, we are now simplifying educational programs as much as possible so that undergraduates can study remotely. In the new academic year, we want to offer a blended form of study. Lectures will be held online, and contact hours - practical skills will be held at the university to perform laboratory work and practical acquaintance with technical equipment. The pandemic has taught us to work in the digital world,” said Almaz Abzhalievich.
The cost of training under the Master’s programs for citizens of Kazakhstan is 750,000 tenge in the profile direction for one year, one and a half years of training is 1,150,000 tenge for the entire period. Scientific and pedagogical direction is 1,600,000 tenge. For foreign citizens, the Master's degree in scientific and pedagogical direction is 2,300,000 tenge.
Bachelor's graduates were interested in whether a foreign internship at AUPET University would be required and whether it would be required.
“We are developing a two-degree direction with European universities. Last week a conference call with the Applied University of Anhalt, Germany was held. Our three undergraduates are currently studying there. We have come to an agreement with Aghalt University that students of our university will be able to receive two diplomas at once. We have developed curricula for two graduate educations with the University of Anhalt, where we adapted the disciplines studied under the Master's programs at our university and the University of Anhalt. There is also such a system for the exchange program. We have experience and in the new academic year we will continue these programs.
Our university provides internships at local production companies and in the scientific and pedagogical direction. Undergraduates will be able to undergo internships in large national companies in the profile of the selected educational programs with our partners,” said Almaz Abzhalievich Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation.
The executive secretary of the selection committee Almuratova Kamshat Bimuratovna acquainted the applicants with the basic requirements for admission to the Master’s Programs. This year, applicants submit applications online from June 15 to July 16, 2021 through the website of the National Test Center testcenter.kz in a computer format. Testing will take place from July 16 to July 25, 2021.
