The “green tradition” of Almaty continues: more than 100 faculty and students of the AUPET have taken part in the eco-cleanup

At Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev an environmental clean-up day, timed to coincide with the International Day of Mother Earth, was held. More than 100 employees, faculty and students of AUPET took part in the eco-cleanup day.

“This is our contribution to keeping our city clean. I believe that maintaining cleanliness in the country is the duty of every citizen. The goal of the ecological cleanup is to raise the level of ecological culture, consciousness and thinking of the inhabitants of our city. Therefore, the staff and students of AUPET cleaned up around the university and on the territory of Bostandyk region,” - noted Serik Kapanovich Makhmutov, vice-rector for educational work of AUPET.

AUPET always supports the "Green Traditions" of Almaty. They originated 150 years ago. The progenitor of the "Green Tradition" was the general and honorary resident of Verny Kolpakovsky Gerasim Alekseevich. He ordered each resident of the city to plant two poplars near the house, and fruit trees on the house plot.

Traditions have survived to this day - on the territory of the university, employees and teachers planted 30 conifers of Thuja in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is noteworthy that one of the ancient names for Thuja was "The Tree of Life". The purpose of the AUPET environmental actions is to preserve, develop the spiritual and cultural heritage, and most importantly improve the ecological environment in Almaty.
