QUOTAS FOR SOCIALLY VULNERABLE CATEGORIES OF CITIZENS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF EDUCATIONAL GRANTS

When distributing educational grants in the 2021-2022 academic year, the Ministry of Education and Science allocated quotas for socially vulnerable segments of the population. Note that this measure is provided for the first time in accordance with the instructions of the President.

Now children from large or single-parent families, as well as those applicants in whose families they bring up children with special needs, will have more chances to receive a grant.

“The Ministry of Education and Science, according to the instructions of the President, has carried out work so that children from socially vulnerable groups have more opportunities to study at the expense of the state. Children from families with four or more minor children received 5% of the total number of grants. Children from single-parent families with this status for at least three years were allocated 1% of grants. Children from families raising children with disabilities of I, II groups were allocated 1% of educational grants. This will be provided if the UNT results meet the threshold score, "said Vice Minister of Education and Science Kuanysh Yergaliyev.

In addition, orphans and representatives of the ethnic diaspora will receive subsidized grants. Thus, applicants from socially vulnerable groups of the population have an advantage when awarding educational grants. For example, if almost 8 thousand educational grants were allocated for pedagogical specialties, then 1063 grants are provided for privileged categories of citizens.

It should be noted that at the third meeting of the National Council of Public Trust, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev instructed to provide for a larger social component in the grant distribution system and focus not only on the academic achievements of the applicant, but also on his socio-economic status.
