Presentation of the book \"Decarbonization of the extractive industries of the Republic of Kazakhstan\" at the 26th conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
In her speech, the Rector of AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev Sagintayeva Saule Savetovna shared the results of scientific research and development of Kazakhstani scientists, including scientists from the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. They generated a lot of interest.
UN Secretary General António Guterres, speaking at the Summit of World Leaders of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, noted the importance of the contribution of developing economies to effectively reduce emissions, as well as phase out coal.
Today, coal generation accounts for over 70% of the generation structure of our country. In the next 15 years, this figure is planned to be reduced to 50% through the use of the best available technologies, the development of Renewable Energy Sources, the commissioning of new gas turbine power plants, the development of decentralized energy supply, the utilization of municipal solid waste, etc.
Understanding the prevailing trends in the decarbonization of coal energy, our scientists offer their developments and proposals. Among them, suggestions made in the guide to Best Available Technologies are found.
The works of domestic scientists and researchers will contribute to the acceleration of the decarbonization of the economy of Kazakhstan in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. To implement these goals, financial support and the creation of technological conditions will be required.
The book was awarded to: Director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia Zafar Makhmudov; Dastan Abdyldaev, Director of the Climate Finance Center under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan; Daniyar Erinchinov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects, a non-profit joint-stock company under the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan.
