WE CONGRATULATE SERGEY SOKOLOV ON THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY!

On December 4, Sergei Evgenievich Sokolov, Doctor of Technical Science turns 80years old. He is a professor at the Department “Electrical Power Systems” of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev.

Sokolov Sergey Evgenievich was born on December 04, 1941 in Alma-Ata. In 1963 he graduated from the Faculty of Electrification of the Kazakh Agricultural Institute with the qualification of "Electrical Engineer".

Sergey Evgenievich began his career as an engineer of the department “Electrical engineering” of the Institute “Kazgiproselelectro”.

In 1965, he transferred for teaching at the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute named after V.I. Lenin.

From 1966 to 1970, Sergei Evgenievich studied in full-time postgraduate study at the Department “Power Plants” of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute named after M.I. Kalinin. In 1971 he defended his Ph.D. thesis.

Since 1970 he worked at the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute. In 1973 he was approved as an assistant professor of the Department “Power Plants”.

In 1975 Sergey Evgenievich was transferred to the Almaty Power Engineering Institute. From 1976 to 1986 he headed the Department “High Voltage Engineering” there.

From 1986 to 1992 he worked in the Almaty branch of the Institute for Advanced Studies "All-Russian Institute for Advanced Training of Energos" as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Continuous Training. Then he worked at the Almaty Institute for Advanced Studies of the National Energy System "Kazakhstanenergo" as the head of the personnel training organization department.

From 1992 to 1999 Sokolov Sergey Evgenievich worked as an assistant professor. Since 1999, he was the head of the Department “Power Supply” of the Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications. In 2001 he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 2002 he was approved in the rank of professor and was elected a full member of the International Academy of Informatization.

Since 2002 Sergey Evgenievich worked at the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering and Telecommunications as the head of the Department “Power Plants, Networks and Systems”. From 2015 to the present, he has been working as a professor at the Department “Electrical Power Systems”.

Sergey Evgenievich takes an active part in the organization of the educational process, in the development of State educational standards and model programs in the specialty "Electrical Engineering". Sokolov S.E. is the chief editor of the scientific and technical journal "Vestnik of AUPET".

In 2011, he was awarded the title "Honored Power Engineer of the Republic of Kazakhstan".

Sokolov S.E. is the founder of the Kazakh school for the development and research of controlled ferromagnetic devices with direct current bias. Under his leadership, the first controlled transformer-type reactors were developed, manufactured and implemented at the substation “Chorga” of the “Altayenergo” and the substation “Taksimo” of the Western section of the power supply of the Baikal Amur Mainline.

Sergey Evgenievich is the author of over 200 scientific works, including 42 copyright certificates and patents, 4 monographs and 12 textbooks.

Sokolov S.E. was awarded the sign "Inventor of the USSR", silver medals of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the USSR, diplomas of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the Kazakh SSR and certificates of honor of various departments.

Currently, Sokolov S.E is a member of the Presidium of the International Academy of Informatization and a member of the Editorial Board of the journal "Science News of Kazakhstan".
