The competition of the project “The Sustainability Living Lab: Outreach project” is being held

The corporate fund “National Conservation Initiative” together with the Office of Sustainable Development of AEO “Nazarbayev University” is holding a competition of projects within the framework of the program “Sustainability Living Lab: Outreach”. The aim of this competition is to support the green initiatives of university communities in the field of improving the sustainability of university campuses, as well as to provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to solve real environmental problems of universities through the application of applied research and innovation.

The acceptance of project applications for participation in the Competition is carried out by the Office from February 21, 2022 to April 5, 2022. Students, professors and employees of universities can participate in the Competition.

Conditions of participation in the competition

1. Students, professors and employees of Universities can participate in the Competition.

2. The team of project applicants must consist of at least 2 people.

3. The project must comply with the following priority areas: - Energy (measures to improve energy efficiency, the introduction of renewable energy sources, smart meters, etc.) - Green buildings (green building standards, sustainable materials in construction, energy audits, indoor air quality research, etc.) - Transportation (alternative fuel source, mode of transport, etc.) - Campus landscaping (botanical garden, urban agriculture, etc.) - Waste management (correct sorting, recycling, composting of organic waste, etc.) - Others relevant to sustainable development areas.

4. To participate in the Competition, you must fill out the application form (Appendix No. 1) and the project budget (Appendix No. 2), and send it in electronic form to the email address of the Office within the specified time green.campus@nu.edu.kz.

5. The project budget should not exceed 800 thousand tenge, including taxes and other payments to the budget.

6. Availability of co-financing is welcome.

7. Applications sent after the deadline for acceptance specified in clause 5.3. are not considered and are not allowed to participate in the Contest. 4.8 All project applications submitted for the Contest are not returned back and are not reviewed.

Competition deadlines

1. Acceptance of project applications for participation in the Competition is carried out by the Office from February 21, 2022 to April 5, 2022.

2. Until April 15, 2022, the Office selects up to 33 projects (no more than 3 projects from each university inclusive) for further participation in the online hearing of projects. On April 18-22, 2022, an online hearing of projects with the participation of the competition committee to determine up to 16 winning projects will be held.

3. On the basis of the Protocol of the Contest held and until May 15, 2022, the Foundation will make Agreements with Universities on the provision of funds for the implementation of the winning projects.

4. By December 31, 2022, the Universities provide the Foundation with a report on the implementation of projects in accordance with the Appendix to the Agreement.
