Opening of the cloud training laboratory “Amazon Web Services” based on AUPET

On February 24, 2022, a business meeting with representatives of the company “C1oud academy” was held at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. Ways to collaborate on opening an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud learning lab were discussed during the meeting. “This project is similar to our collaboration with Huawei. Cloud technologies are a very relevant topic not only for Kazakhstan, but for the entire post-Soviet space. Our students will be able to get free training in this area, get a certificate from Amazon and find high-paying jobs in international corporations. In addition, we propose to include the discipline "Cloud Technologies" in the educational process. We hope that the pilot project will be launched at our university by September 1,” said Raushan Satova, director of the Institute for Advanced Studies.

“Amazon Web Services” is the undisputed leader in cloud computing for brands such as Nasdaq, UniCredit, Sega, Netflix and Ericsson. The Kazakh company "C1oud academy" specializes in preparing students for AWS certification in cloud areas. It strives to turn Kazakhstan into a real forge of cloud specialists for large companies in the world, together with the country's universities.

Clarifying questions were asked to the head of the company Serik Kudaykulov during the meeting.

- What is the mission of your company?

- The mission is the training of highly qualified specialists, because in Russia the cloud technologies market is suffering due to the protectionist policy in the IT sphere. Personnel leakage occurs in Belarus. There are not enough specialists in this area in the post-Soviet space. Now there is a niche that needs to be filled. We are talking not only about business, but also about the social mission of our company. The study of cloud technologies will open the way for young people.

- How many specialists are missing in the field of cloud technologies?

- Thousands! Our lectures on AWS cloud technologies are conducted by the only accredited specialist in the CIS countries, lecturer Yerzhan Maulenov. Thanks to this accreditation, he has access to innovative knowledge from Amazon. On the basis of this knowledge, we want to establish cooperation with universities in order to train good specialists. A person who successfully completes our courses can be certified by Amazon itself.

- There are now separate courses on cloud technologies on the Coursera platform. What is your advantage?

- We do not advertise or give certificates from our company. We immediately say that we are preparing for AWS certification. Amazon itself will issue these certificates. Not everyone can just get certified. For successful completion, we will organize 7 disciplines on the basis of AUPET to obtain 4 certificates: Foundational, Associate, Professional, Specialty.

- Where can I go to work after certification?

- A certificate from Amazon gives a very big advantage when a person gets a job in any large company that uses cloud technologies. It can be not only banks, but also transnational companies. For example, our teacher works for a company that serves the cloud for American Pfizer and Moderna.

The parties discussed issues of scaling and parameters of financial sustainability of the cooperation project. The possibility of opening a cloud learning laboratory Amazon Web Services will be further discussed at the level of AUPET management.
