“Learn to solve problems, not cramming.” Meet-up with the technical director “Kazdream Innovation” Bakytzhan Seitkazin

On March 11, 2022, a meet-up with the technical director “Kazdream Innovation” Bakytzhan Seitkazin was held. In his presentation “The state of programming languages in 2022”, he told the students of AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev about programming languages and gave practical advice on how to successfully find a job in the IT sector. “I notice that many students are in a hurry, that is, they want to work from the 1st or 2nd year. But student time must be used wisely, because you won’t be able to go back a second time. Just studying and doing nothing is also a bad strategy. Learn to solve problems, not cramming (...). A graduate with work experience and a portfolio is valued higher in the labor market. My advice: be sure to do internships,” he said.

After the presentation, the guest answered questions.

- How is Python used for analysis?

- Python is a great language to do ETL (from the English. Extract, Transform, Load - literally "extraction, transformation, loading"). Through this process, you will be able to manage and extract data. Therefore, many things are easy to do in Python.

- Is there an opportunity for an internship in your company?

Yes, we have an internship program. Be interested in our news and contact our HR department. Our employees will tell you about the opportunity to do an internship in our company. They're very kind.

- Tell us about the alternative to Python in data analysis?

- There is SQL, but it is a tool. In data analysis, you will be using some kind of "python" like Anaconda and Jupyter Notebook. And, most likely, you will write your first scripts on Jupyter Notebook. This whole ecosystem works around the “python”. A small part is occupied by Java and Scala.

- What skills should a graduate have to get a job in your company?

- Whoever shows himself better - we take him. I myself look at the interest of the graduate. we understand that it does not come with all knowledge. But we cannot be teachers. Therefore, we give tasks and time to solve this problem on our own. If a person knows how to analyze and self-learn, then this is a big plus.

- Can the influx of IT-specialists from Russia become a problem for Kazakhstani specialists? How to increase your competitiveness?

- It's not a problem at all. When I was looking for a job myself, I was the best in my class and received a letter of recommendation from my teacher. Having found a job, I received 5 thousand tenge per month, which did not cover the cost of food and travel at all. But I understood that I needed to get real work experience. We have to look for opportunities. We have a lot of students who are already working (!). And Russian colleagues are not competitors to us at all.
