“This club has been created in partnership with the US Embassy in Kazakhstan and USAID.” International expert club \"Green World Club\"

The grand opening of the international expert club "Green World Club" was held at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev on March 29, 2022. “I am happy to welcome journalists, experts and bloggers to today's event! – the Rector Saule Sagintayeva addressed the participants. - This club was created in partnership with the US Embassy in Kazakhstan and USAID. Our goal: to create a pool of expert knowledge for professional media coverage of renewable energy and environmental issues, that is, the creation of a club of experts. Together with journalists, experts and bloggers, we will have to not only strengthen the promotion of the green agenda in the media space, but also engage in educational work among the population. At AUPET, we are creating an expert platform for the dissemination of accessible and reliable information on renewable energy sources (RES).”

Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and member of the Committee on Ecology and Nature Management Yedil Zhanbyrshin explained in his speech the policy of the Kazakh state in this direction. “Environmental issues are becoming more and more important every year, as it affects the economy, demographics and the lives of local communities. The head of state urged to improve the ecological culture of the population. This is possible only through work with journalists, experts and bloggers. In addition, Kazakhstan has ratified the Paris Agreement and assumed obligations that will keep our planet green; we are systematically reducing the share of coal energy and increasing the share of renewable energy in the industry. Today, our generation bears a great responsibility for the green future of Kazakhstan. Therefore, the creation of an international expert club "Green World Club" on the basis of AUPET is a wonderful project that will benefit our country," he said.

Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Almaz Sauhimov spoke in his report about the unique competencies of AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev in the field of green energy. “Thanks to the foresight of Elbasy, Kazakhstan became the first country in the region to implement the ideas of a green economy. September 25, 2007 N.A. Nazarbayev at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly proposed to develop a global energy and environmental strategy. It was from that time that the scientists of our university began to work on green energy. What have we specifically done to provide administrative support for the development of RES? In 2016, on the basis of the Department of Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises, a new Department of Power Supply and Renewable Energy Sources was formed. In 2017, the educational and scientific laboratory "Renewable and alternative energy sources" was opened. For this, we must express our gratitude to the US Embassy in Kazakhstan and USAID for their support to our university. The Department “Power Supply and Renewable Energy Sources” is unique in the country. 60 high-class specialists, who are already making a great contribution to the development of alternative energy and energy-saving technologies, were trained there.”

Executive Director of the Association of RES "Qazaq Green" Timur Shalabaev supplemented and explained in detail the level of development of green energy in Kazakhstan. “Renewable energy coverage is an important task. Decarbonization processes should be accompanied by the promotion of green and safe technologies. Our population is accustomed to traditional energy, and does not always understand all the advantages of renewable energy. The number of renewable energy facilities based on the results of last year's development is 40 wind stations (1776.41 million kWh), 49 solar stations (1641.09 million kWh), 40 hydroelectric power plants (799.74 million kWh), 5 bioelectric power plants (3.04 million kWh). The total share of electricity generation by renewable energy stations in 2021 amounted to 3.7%. We are moving forward with confidence, and our experts have identified the following challenges in the renewable energy sector in Kazakhstan: 1) The fastest implementation of flexible capacity projects; 2) Implementation of renewable energy projects with energy storage through the auction mechanism; 3) Stimulating and supporting the development of distributed generation (wide use of RES by households and businesses); 4) Development of the market of bilateral contracts - RES for own needs of enterprises and industry; 5) Formation of attractive conditions for investing in the renewable energy sector in Kazakhstan (increasing trading volumes, improving the conditions for indexing tariffs, developing the practice of project auctions, and so on). By responding to these challenges, we will be able to reach a radically new level of development.” - he noted in his report.

Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies Raushan Satova spoke about the organizational mechanism of the work of the international expert club "Green World Club". “The tender project was announced by the American partners in August 2021, and we were confident that we would be able to take responsibility and implement it in full, as AUPET has all the capabilities to do so. We are glad that our application was accepted and the project is launched. 50 journalists and bloggers from all over Kazakhstan will take part in 8 seminars. Each of the participants will publish 4 articles that will strengthen the promotion of green energy and educate the population on renewable energy issues. The advanced training institute will be the club's management center,” she said.

At the end of the event, reports and presentations by Professor German Trofimov (Renewable Energy Sources of the World and Kazakhstan), Professor Birlesbek Aliyarov (Energy Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Prospects for the Integration of RES, Technological and Environmental Environment), Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yedil Zhanbyrshin (Work of the Committee of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on ecology and nature management) were presented.
