AUPET and USAID jointly develop green energy in Central Asia

On April 25, 2022, the opening of the two-day seminar “Regional Educational Forum on Renewable Energy Sources” was held at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev (AUPET). “This event is the final stage of a large project that was launched in 2017. Based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and AUPET, the USAID Future Energy Project has developed a modern renewable energy course to train highly qualified specialists. This course was successfully implemented at AUPET and presented to representatives of the entire educational community of the five countries of Central Asia,” said Oleg Ryaskov, Deputy Head of the USAID Future Energy Project.

In his speech,  Vice-Rector of AUPET for Research and Innovation Almaz Saukhimov focused on the unique competencies of the university. He noted the following: “The main guideline is the constant renewal of educational programs through research. We must do everything through the implementation of scientific research. 10 years ago, we started working on renewable energy sources, which have already become commonplace in our lives today. Collaboration with USAID has helped us strengthen and expand the capacity of the Department of Electrical Supply and Renewable Energy.”

Representatives of technical universities of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan made presentations on the first day of the forum. The second day includes visiting wind and solar power plants in the Kapchagay.
