Students of AUPET Sorokina Maria and Mellatova Enlik have taken the second place at the olympiad in english among technical universities of Almaty

International University of Information Technologies (IUIT) has held a student English language Olympiad among technical universities in Almaty. The Olympics were held under the auspices of the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of Kazakhstan on April 16, 23 and 2022. The best students of Kazakhstan-British Technical University, Satbayev University, Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecomunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev, Turan University and International University of Information Technologies took part in the Olympiad.

The purpose of the Olympics was:

- to develop in students of non-linguistic specialties of interest in in-depth study of the English language;

- to stimulate intellectual and linguistic activity of students;

- to develop foreign language communicative competence of students;

- to increase the competitiveness of students in the study and further application of the English language.

According to the conditions of the Olympiad, the stage of the internal selection of 1st and 2nd year students of non-linguistic specialties takes place in each technical university. Native speakers and students living more than 6 months in English speaking country are not allowed to participate in the Olympics.

In the first round of the Inter-University Olympiad, the best students (not more than five) from each university take part.

The Olympiad procedure is presented in the format of the international IELTS exam and includes the following:

1) listening, consisting of 4 sections (40 questions), duration 30 minutes;

2) reading three texts (40 questions), duration 60 minutes;

3) writing an essay (250 words), duration 40 minutes.

10 participants, who gained the largest number of points in the first round, will be eligible to participate in the II round of the Olympics. Only two representatives from each university are admitted to the II round.

Terms of the Olympiad:

Round I - April 16, 2022.

Round II - April 23, 2022.

The best students of AUPET took part in the first round of the Olympiad:

• Temirzhan Karina SIS 21-12
• Urazbekov Azamat CMDSR 21-3
• Davlatkulov Botirjon SE 21-2
• Yusupov Ansar SIS -21 -10
• Mellatova Enlik SE 21-2

From them Sorokina Maria AC 20-6 and Mellatova Enlik SE 21-2 passed the second round and took the second place with the receipt of certificates and cash prizes (for 20 000 tenge each).

All Olympiad participants received certificates, and lecturers - Parkhatova R. M. and Imramzieva S. D. received a letter of gratitude for the participation in the conduct of this traditional inter-university Olympiad.
