“60% of new vacancies require unique knowledge that only 20% of job seekers have.” The Rector of AUPET Saule Sagintayeva delivered a speech at the Techno Women IT Forum

On May 18, 2022, the Rector of AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeyev Saule Sagintayeva took part in the Techno Women IT forum at Satpayev University. “I am glad to welcome you all on behalf of our university, which in 1975 separated from Polytechnic University named after V.I. Lenin. Currently, AUPET is the leading institution of higher education in Kazakhstan, which trains specialists not only in the energy sector, but also in IT. At the present, 60% of new vacancies require unique knowledge, which only 20% of applicants have. Such trends in the labor market require us to constantly look for new models of education - minors (an additional module of the bachelor's degree program), double degree programs, and the like. In addition, we strive to bridge the gender gap. 30% of undergraduate students at our university are the fair sex. 32% of students in master's programs are girls at our university. We are on the right path towards gender balance,” she said.

In her speech, the Rector noted on the example of our student that women are better at multitasking. “I would like to introduce our 1nd year student Enlik Melatova to the forum participants. Her range of interests simply does not fit in the head. She has successfully participated in the development of an automated garbage collector, and at the same time has taken a prize with this project in the republican hackathon. Her project “Space System” has won a prize in the Erasmus+ business idea competition. She participates in the program “Satellite Assembly”. Enlik Melatova is simultaneously studying at the New York Academy of Sciences (applause.) What a successful girl!” Saule Sagintayeva said.

The Rector mentioned in her speech such famous women as mathematician Augusta Adu King, Yahoo president Marissa Ann Mayer and computer programmer Adele Goldberg, who inspired and still inspire many to great achievements.

The purpose of holding "Techno Women Almaty" was the desire to unite common efforts in promoting girls and women in high-tech industries. The organizers of this event plan to create a women's progressive community in Almaty.
