\"People Commissar of Education Temirbek Zhurgenev is founder of the modernization of the culture of Kazakhstan in the 1930s”

Temirbek Karaevich Zhurgenev is the People's Commissar of Education of the Kazakh ASSR (1933-1937). He is the founder of the formation and development of education, science and culture of Kazakhstan in the 1930s.

• T. Zhurgenev was an educated, intelligent person. He spoke Russian, Kazakh, Arabic, Persian and Old Uzbek. He was a connoisseur of folk epos and music. He played the dombra excellently, had vast experience in socio-political, state-administrative, practical scientific and university work.

• He was born in 1898 in the Aktobe region in the family of a rich Bai Kara. His mother died when Temirbek was small. His father gave him a good education. Temirbek Karaevich Zhurgenev graduated from the Russian-Kazakh elementary school (1913), the Russian-Kazakh school named after Sukhansky in Perovsk (1917). After graduating from the Orenburg Workers' Faculty (1923), he received a referral to the Central Asian State University and studied at the Faculty of Law (1923-1927).

• In the 1920s, the country was in dire need of specialists and organizers of the national economy. Therefore, student T. Zhurgenov became the Plenipotentiary Representative of the KASSR in the Turkestan Republic in 1924-1926. He took an active part in the preparation of the national-state demarcation of Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

• During his last year at the university, Temirbek Zhurgenov was the Rector of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute in Tashkent (1926-1929), which was later transferred to Alma-Ata and became known as the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute. T. Zhurgenov was a member of the Central Executive Committee of Kazakhstan and Turkestan. He graduated from the university with honors. T. Zhurgenov was left as a researcher at the Central Asian State University named after V. I. Lenin. by state law.

• In 1929 he was the People's Commissar of Finance of the Tajik SSR. In 1930-1933 Temirbek Karaevich Zhurgenev was the People's Commissar of Education of the Uzbek SSR.

• In 1933, T. Zhurgenev was the People's Commissar of Education of the Kazakh ASSR. It was a very difficult time for the republic. The new leadership of the Kazakh Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) made great efforts to correct the gross political mistakes made during the period of collectivization, the Goloshchekin famine and genocide, which had tragic consequences for the Kazakh people.

• Temirbek Zhurgenov's managerial talent was revealed during the implementation of the cultural revolution in Kazakhstan. The main tasks were: the creation of a system of universal primary education, the elimination of illiteracy among the adult population, the creation of a system of higher education and the academy of sciences of the republic.

• The activity of the people's commissar was exceptionally fruitful in the development of literature and art in Kazakhstan. Temirbek Karaevich Zhurgenev made a great contribution to the development of the Kazakh literary language, to the creation of scientific terminology. He was one of the first translators of the works of the classics of Marxism-Leninism into the Kazakh language.

• Zhurgenov tirelessly searched for people's talents, created the necessary conditions for them to study and work. Their names are the golden fund of Kazakh culture: A. Kasteev, Sh. Zhienkulova, K. Baiseitova, Zh. Zhabaev.

• People's Commissar T. Zhurgenev founded the Kazakh Musical Theatre, the Orchestra of Folk Instruments, the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet, cinema, drama and theater. The decade of literature and art of Kazakhstan was prepared and held in May 1936 in Moscow under his leadership. Temirbek Karaevich Zhurgenev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor following the results of the decade.

• From 1933 to 1937. Zhurgenov is a member of the District Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Kazakhstan and its bureau, a member of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. A talented figure of the cultural revolution, Temirbek Zhurgenov was in the prime of his creative powers, when in August 1937 he was subjected to unjustified arrest and tragically died.

• Temirbek Zhurgenov was arrested on August 2, 1937 by the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Kazakh SSR. On February 25, 1938, he was sentenced by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR to be shot. Temirbek Karaevich Zhurgenev was rehabilitated on April 18, 1957 by the Military Collegium of the USSR Supreme Court for lack of corpus delicti.”

• Temirbek Zhurgenov's father, Kara Zhurgenov, was the son of a major bai Kuan. On false charges, he was also sentenced to death on September 25, 1937 in the city of Kyzyl-Orda. Temirbek Zhurgenov's brothers, Koszhan, Doszhan and Yskak were also arrested and shot.

• The wife of Zhurgenov-Ermekov, Dametken Amirkhanovna, was arrested on March 21, 1938 by the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Kazakh SSR. She was sentenced as a member of the family of a traitor to the Motherland to labor camps. She served time in the Akmola camp for the wives of traitors to the motherland. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, she repeatedly wrote requests to send her to the front as a professional physician, but did not receive an answer. Ermekova Dametken Amirkhanovna was rehabilitated on December 23, 1955 due to the lack of corpus delicti. She devoted the rest of her life to restoring the honorable name of Temirbek Zhurgenov.

• The name of Temirbek Zhurgenev is immortalized. A street in Almaty is named after him. Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T.K. Zhurgenov. A monument to Temirbek Zhurgenev was erected in front of the academy. In 2020, the village of Komsomolkoye, Aytekebi district, Aktobe region, was renamed the village after Temirbek Zhurgenov. The school number 70 in Astana was named after Temirbek Zhurgenev.
