The memory of the victims of political repressions... shall not be forgotten!

A round table dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Famine and Political Repressions was held on the basis of the Department “Social Disciplines” and the Scientific Library at Satbayev University (Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K. Satpayev). The event was organized jointly with the Department “Social Disciplines” of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. The moderator of the round table was Turlybek Salimovich Tumabaev, lecturer of the Department “Social Disciplines” of Satbayev University.

The purpose of the event was to perpetuate the memory of the victims of political repression, the formation of common values, the revival of national memory and the transfer of historical experience to future generations.

Participants of the event: the faculty of the Department “Social Disciplines”, the Department of the Kazakh and Russian Languages, employees of the Historical Museum of Satbayev University, as well as the faculty of the Department “Social Disciplines” of Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev.

To date, our scientists have already begun to solve this problem. They work in archives, introduce previously unknown documents into scientific circulation and contribute to the long process of rehabilitation of victims of political repression.

Ermukhanov Erkin Nuraddinovich - Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department “History” of Kazakhstan of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay. Mukhambedyarova Altynai Tuleuovna - Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. Salkynbek Dosaly Isakhanovich - Professor, Head of the Department “Social Disciplines” at Satbayev University. Utegaliyeva Almazhan Dzhusupovna - Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. Nurgalym Kadir Salykovich - candidate of historical sciences, associate professor of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay. Ryskildinova Dinara Baizakovna - senior lecturer at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. Omirbekov Aspandiyar Adenovich - chief specialist of the Historical Museum of Satbayev University, member of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.

The speakers of the round table noted that the political repressions of 1920-1940 caused the heaviest damage to the demographic composition of the republic, the state of mind of the people of Kazakhstan. Those were really dark years. During this period, in addition to the tragedy of collectivization, thousands of innocent Kazakhstanis were subjected to political persecution and prosecution. Over a million people from various regions of the Soviet Union were deported. At the same time, tens of thousands of compatriots were forced to emigrate to other countries due to persecution.

The round table session continued with an exchange of views. The participants shared their thoughts on political repression and famine in the country's history. They focused on the importance of remembering the victims of political repression and modernizing the minds of young people. During the round table, the participants spoke not only about the tragedy of the Holodomor, but also about whether it was possible to avoid it. They drew parallels with the famine in other Union republics.

At the end of the meeting, the results of the meeting were summed up, the planned activities for the future in this direction were discussed and outlined.
