Summer camp «The role of women in the implementation of the energy transition in Central Asia»
The summer camp «The role of women in the implementation of the Energy Transition in Central Asia» is being held at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev from June 12 to 15 within the framework of the USAID project «Energy of Central Asia». Achieving gender equality and diversity is proclaimed one of the most important tasks on the international agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals «Ensuring gender equality, empowering all women and girls».
The project contributes to the creation of strong personnel in the energy sector and the achievement of intersectoral goals to stimulate vocational training, education, capacity-building, the use of the experience of local organizations and ensuring gender equality and inclusiveness.
Representatives of the fair sex from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan take part in this event.
At the opening ceremony of the camp, Mr. Fuad Bey Hajiyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NCJSC AUPET, and Mr. Luis A. Rivera, Deputy Director of the USAID/Central Asia regional mission, made welcoming speeches, noting the importance of the role of women in the socio-economic development of countries.
Reports were spoken by Dilara Shurshenova, Manager of EY Consulting Practice, on the role of women's communities, empowerment of women, as well as the results of the program to support the renewable energy sector and promote gender equality in Kazakhstan; UNICEF Ambassador and mentor of the UniSat project Dana Baitukayeva on the nano-satellite educational program for girls.
Also, at the event were:
- Member of the Council on Green Economy under the President of the RK, Director of the REC «Green Academy» Bakhyt Yessekina «Priorities of the strategy for achieving carbon neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060.»;
- USAID/Central Asia Gender Expert Akmaral Sman;
- Raushan Satova, Professor of the NCJSC AUPET, Doctor of Economics, «Potential and measures to support the development of hydrogen transport»;
- Project coordinator at the Laboratory of Green Energy and Climate Change at the Center for Natural Resources and Sustainable Development of KNU Dana Zhunisova and many other speakers, including representatives from the Ministry of Energy of the RK, energy enterprises, Central Asian countries, and teachers of the NCJSC AUPET.
The key initiatives of this event are uniting Central Asian women working in the energy sector, creating a platform for promoting the principles of gender balance in the energy sector, developing international cooperation, educational and mentoring programs to increase the number of women leaders in the energy sector.
