Nikolay Georgievich Prikhodko is the winner of the republican contest «The Best University teacher of 2023»

At the end of last year, the names of the winners of the competition «The best university teacher - 2023», organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, became known. The Republican Competition Commission conducted a thorough selection among 768 applicants from 80 higher educational institutions of the country. The winners were 150 teachers from 43 Kazakhstani universities. Among them are two teachers from Energo University (Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev).

Today we are talking about one of the winners – Nikolai Georgievich Prikhodko, Professor, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, lecturer at the Department of Ecology and Management in Engineering at the Institute of Energy and Green Technologies.

- In 1973, I graduated from the Energy Faculty of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute with a degree in «Electric thermal power plants». While still a student, he engaged in scientific activities, participated in conferences, received diplomas for this, recalls Nikolai Georgievich. – After graduation, he worked for some time in the production of heat and power engineering. Then he returned to science. My area of interest was thermal power engineering, the study of temperature fields of a non-stationary type, we conducted experiments at the Shymkent phosphorus plant. In 1975, when the Almaty Energy Institute opened, I was invited to the Department of Occupational Safety.

Nikolai Georgievich worked at AIРEТ until 1980. Then he studied full-time postgraduate studies at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University (Moscow) at the Department of Labor Protection, where he defended his PhD thesis in two specialties. He returned to AUРЕТ in 2008 and is still working here. According to both his colleagues and students, Prikhodko teaches courses on «Industrial Safety», «Biological, chemical and radiation safety», special courses on «Theory and Technique of engineering experiment», «Planning and management of scientific and innovative activities», «Declaration of Industrial Safety of hazardous production facilities» at a high theoretical level.

In parallel with teaching at our university, Nikolai Georgievich has been engaged in science throughout his life. He conducts serious research at the Institute of Combustion Problems, a leading institution in Kazakhstan specializing in the development of such fields of science as: carbon chemistry, chemical physics, combustion processes, plasma chemistry, mechanochemistry, nanomaterials and nanotechnology.

Throughout his teaching career, Nikolai Georgievich not only gives excellent knowledge to students, but also shares his life philosophy with future engineers, contributes to the formation of a generation of responsible citizens.

- Teaching is a serious job because it relates to young people. And young people need to be educated, Nikolai Georgievich shares his teaching principles. - Therefore, of course, there are certain approaches in the process of conducting classes and communicating with students. Firstly, the teacher must be highly literate. He must also love his profession and the subjects he teaches. And he should be able to convey this love to students. Students are a peculiar people. The teacher should be able to find an approach to everyone, to reveal their capabilities. Snobbery is not allowed in communication with students, as this immediately reduces the process of perception of the subject, and it also to some extent diminishes the student's capabilities. And it is important for the teacher to reveal all the possibilities of the student, to show him a perspective!
