Energo University student wins World Cup stage
Esbol Yerengayip, a student of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev (Energo University), studying in the specialty "Automation and Control", won three medals at the second stage of the Draughts-64 World Cup.
The second stage of the World Cup in traditional (64-cell) draughts was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and brought together 120 athletes from 10 countries, including winners and prize-winners of the world championships, Europe and other major international tournaments. Competitions in Tashkent were held in three types of the program - classical, fast and lightning game among men and women in six age categories. Kazakhstani draughts players won a total of 12 medals. But only one of them, Esbol Yerengayip, managed to climb the podium in all three types of the competition program.
At the World Cup in Tashkent, our student competed in the under-23 age category. He won the gold medal in the lightning game. The competitions were held in 9 rounds according to the Swiss system, that is, the Kazakhstani met with all the strongest rivals. Esbol Yerengayip received two more awards, both bronze, following his performance in classical and fast draughts.
Esbol came from Astana to study at Energo University, choosing the specialty "Automation and Control". In May, he successfully completed his studies in the subjects of the third year, passing all the exams for "good" and "excellent".
It should also be noted that in April of this year, Esbol Yerengayip became the Asian champion in the under–23 age category in another kind of draughts - single-celled. The athlete is currently in production practice, after which he will focus his efforts on preparing for the third stage of the Draughts-64 World Cup, which will be held in July in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar.
