A Meeting on Training Personnel for the Energy Sector Held at the Ministry of Energy

On July 11, a meeting on the issues of training personnel for the country's energy sector was held in Astana at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by Deputy Minister Sungat Yesimkhanov.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the largest energy companies, including JSC "Samruk-Energo", JSC "KEGOC", JSC "СAEK", LLP "Kazakhmys Energy", LLP "Eurasian Group", LLP "Kazakhstan Utility Systems", and the Kazakhstan Electricity Association, as well as the leadership of the country's main energy university - Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev (Energo University).

The attendees noted that in light of the observed shortage of personnel in the energy sector, there is a need for consolidation between the university, which trains specialists for the industry, and production companies, which are the employers of today's students.

The rector of Energo University, Gani Nygymetov, proposed that energy companies join the university's Industrial Council and, on the basis of dialogue on this platform, jointly address the pressing issues of the shortage of qualified specialists in the field of energy, as well as tasks in light of the recently signed Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Heat Energy". Participants expressed full support for new initiatives, including the funding of targeted grants for the training of their engineering staff.

The meeting was also attended by a representative of the international partner of Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications – Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector for International Relations of Moscow Power Engineering Institute. He expressed interest in creating, jointly with Energo University, a Center for Targeted Training of Energy Specialists and opening a full-fledged branch of MPEI at AUPET. This will strengthen the industry with young qualified personnel, training them directly according to the requests of companies.

In addition, it is planned to open a branch of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany) at AUPET in September of this year. It is expected that these forms of international partnership will make a significant contribution to improving the quality and attractiveness of energy education in Kazakhstan.
